What is CSA? (Community Supported Agriculture)
Community-supported agriculture is a food distribution system that connects the farmer and consumer within the system more closely by allowing the consumer to subscribe to the harvest of a certain farm or group of farms. It is an alternative socioeconomic model of agriculture and food distribution that allows the farmer and consumer to share the risks of farming. The model is a subcategory of civic agriculture that has an overarching goal of strengthening a sense of community through local markets. In return for subscribing to a harvest, subscribers receive either a weekly or other scheduled box of produce or other farm goods. This includes in-season fruits, vegetables, meats, dairy, honey, syrup and eggs. Wikipedia definition.
We had a very successful 2024 season and will continue to implement improvements and update the programs for future seasons. We appreciate your feedback, your opinions help us make beneficial changes.
We are growing many nutrient dense fruits and vegetables for our members!
Our spring-fall CSA includes 22 weeks of organically produced fruits, vegetables, house plants and wildflowers.
Members also receive a monthly email containing recipes, articles, farm updates and a little humor! The articles and recipes will feature that month's CSA items to help members make the most of every bite.
The monthly email also includes methods and tips for storage and preservation, such as freezing and canning. Our goal is for you to be eating farm grown vegetables all year round!

Spaniola Farm Summer CSA program Member and Farmer Agreement
Section 1. Introducing Our CSA Farm
A. Becoming a Part of Our Farm
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a relationship between our farm and you as our member. Rather than simply purchasing food, our members receive a portion of the farm’s harvest.
Our 2025 CSA Season is 22 weeks, from May 27– October 28.
When not using our delivery option, members are responsible for showing up at the farm each week, on Tuesday between 12pm-6pm, to pick up their share of freshly harvested produce and goods. Members will generally receive weight of produce, equivalent to two-three (one-two for half share members) grocery bags, with three bags probable (full share members). You should receive 4-15 item weekly. Detailed information regarding pick-up is discussed below in Section 3. Variety and quantity may vary as described below in Section 2.
Section 1. Introducing Our CSA Farm, Continued
B. Our Growing Practices
Our farm follows the guidelines for food safety practices published as FSMA, the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act. And, the Michigan's Produce Risk Assessment Program. Inspected practices are consistent with the current U.S. Food and Drug Administration Produce Safety Rule.
Occasionally your produce will be washed, if it needs it, but most of the time it will not be. Even the most gentle washing method causes damage and unwashed produce has a significantly increased shelf life. So, wait until right before you use it to wash it for best results. We don't use any harmful chemicals in our grow operations so there will NOT be any on your food. We control pests with soap and water, vinegar, baking soda and certified organic Suff-X Oil (very rarely.) We also test our water source and soils for harmful pathogens.
Eggs, meat and dairy products come from animals that are not given antibiotics or growth hormones. Our animals are free range and are allowed continuous access to the outdoors during their production cycle. Our farm goods are produced without using specific conventional pesticides, fertilizers made with synthetic ingredients or sewage sludge, bioengineering, or ionizing radiation. For more information about production please ask. We’d be happy to tell you more.
The farm is in the process of obtaining certification from MAEAP Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program to prevent or minimize agricultural pollution risks.

C. The Variety We Expect
The list below outlines some of what we expect to harvest and when you should expect to see them in your bags. This chart is based on our best estimate, but of course weather, pests, and other events will affect actual production. The farm’s season extension equipment enables early and late season harvests.
· June to August – Radishes, Beets, Chives, Mint, Parsley, Basil, Red Russian Kale, Butter Crunch and Black Seeded Simpson Head Lettuces, Rainbow Chard, Perpetual Spinach, Garlic, Onions, Green Onions, Potatoes, Slicing and Pickling Cucumbers, Green Beans, Cherry and Grape Tomatoes, Slicing Tomatoes, Canning Tomatoes, Colored Sweet Bell Peppers, Hot Peppers including Jalapeno and Cheyenne, Summer Squash, Zucchini, Houseplants.
· September to October – Chives, Mint, Parsley, Basil, Mixed Oak Leaf Romaine Lettuce, Gourmet Mixed Loose Leaf Lettuce, Rainbow Chard, Perpetual Spinach, Garlic, Onions, Green Onions, Potatoes, Green Beans, Cherry and Grape Tomatoes, Slicing and Canning Tomatoes, Colored Sweet Bell Peppers, Hot Peppers including Jalapeno and Cheyenne, Houseplants.
Section 2. Our Shared Commitments
A. Sharing in the Risk of Crop Failure
We promise to do our best to provide you with a bountiful share each week. The quantity of produce, however, may vary from week-to-week/month-to-month/season-to-season due to weather, insects, or other production factors despite our best efforts. By joining our CSA, you are agreeing to share the risk of crop failure with us and other members. In the event of a crop failure, our procedure is as follows:
If only a small portion of crops fail, we compensate for the failed crops by filling your share with other crops grown on the farm that are ready for harvest at that time. If a large portion of crops fail, we may not be able to deliver any product in some weeks. Our farm does not supply any produce grown off farm at this time.
Section 2. Our Shared Commitments, Continued
B. Sharing in the Reward of Crop Surplus
At this time our farm does not sell to farmers markets. Our CSA members receive priority and overabundance during weeks when production is particularly high yielding. After filling your CSA share as much as possible with the week’s harvest, any remainder is recycled back into our regenerative farm.
Section 3. Picking Up Shares
You are responsible for picking up your produce on every scheduled Tuesday between 12pm - 6pm, from the following drop site:
Spaniola Farm
810 423 9077 – 810 691 9077
2222 W Vienna Rd

2. Return the previous week’s bags, baskets and clean undamaged egg cartons (optional but appreciated) every week.
3. Pick up your share within the time frame stated. Although we deliver high-quality produce to the site, it will decline quickly if not picked up in time.
4. Be respectful of our drop site hosts’ property.
